Reader's Theater fluency practice

To help support the Sleeping Bears in becoming smooth, fluent readers, we have been doing small group reader's theater plays during reader's workshop time.  After practicing for several weeks, the Sleeping Bears have been performing their reader's theater plays for the rest of the class.  Next week, we'll launch a new round of reader's theater plays, this time with all students participating!

fall pumpkins!

In honor of our first garden class tomorrow, the Sleeping Bears have been working on a special art project about the life cycle of the pumpkin!  We did read alouds addressing the life cycle of a pumpkin and are using paper that we painted to make collages addressing each stage of a pumpkin's life.  This project is also serving as an introduction to painted-paper collage, which we will be using for our writer's workshop publishing down the road.  Check back soon to see the finished projects!
